Roger Anthony Maffei
September 14, 1944 – April 2, 2021
West Newbury – Roger passed in the comfort of his home in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, surrounded by his family and the love he shared in life. Roger’s positive attitude and determination to remain strong in the face of various health issues over the years helped him lead a life of meaning, joy, and purpose. Those who knew him admired his ability to remain positive during difficult times, he inspired others to do so as well.
Roger never let a day go by without telling a joke of some kind. You would be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t remember his sense of humor and sweet soul. He is fondly remembered by all as a kind, generous, and thoughtful man—devoted to his family and friends. Roger enjoyed cooking but not as much as eating, (he would have preferred “pasta-way” to “passed away”). He especially loved going out to breakfast with his friends and chatting for hours while sipping coffee and making memories.
Husband, father, friend, confidant, father-in-law, surrogate father, volunteer, comedian; Roger touched so many lives. Sharing his time and kind heart with others was important to him. He volunteered at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass., delivered for Meals on Wheels in West Newbury, and most recently he helped out at Tidewell Hospice House in Ellenton, Fla. Fittingly, Roger was under the care of the wonderful nurses and doctors of Tidewell during his last month of life.
Roger is survived by his wife, Janet; his daughter, Lisa Wallace and her husband Keith Wallace of Reading, Mass.; his son William Maffei of East Boston, Mass.; and his sister, Rosemary Joyce of North Reading, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Roger’s name to Tidewell Hospice Foundation at www.tidewellfoundation.org. A memorial service will be planned for later this year. Forever loved, always missed, never forgotten. We love you, Roger!
